Community Hero December 2024: Rake and Take Pet Waste Removal

Welcome to Biobag's Community Heroes series!

Each month, we will highlight community heroes that are making a difference in their communities and working to make their local environments cleaner and healthier.

This month, we are taking a look at Rake and Take Pet Waste Removal in IN!

Rake and Take Pet Waste Removal is a composting service based in Kimmell IN. They treat your yard with care with their technicians ready to start keeping your yard pet poop free! Biobag Associate spoke to Jory with Rake and Take Pet Waste Removal about the organization. Their interview is transcribed below.

What led you to start your composting operation?

I was actually working for another company doing sales. I was stuck in an office with no windows not really enjoying things. One of our customers that we sold products to had a poop scoop company. After talking with them, I thought I could make that work in my area. I went all in! Put my two weeks in and started Rake and Take Pet Waste Removal!

Who do you serve and how can people get in touch with you if they want to start composting?

Right now we service NE Indiana. Areas including Fort Wayne to Warsaw, up to Syracuse.

How much organic material do you typically take in on a weekly basis?

We scoop a lot of poo every week. If I had to guess, it would be right around 100 cubic ft a week. Every job gets it own bag which helps to keep our tools clean and prevent the transfer of parasites. That ends up being a lot of bags!

When we first started scooping, I was just using regular trash bags and started to feel bad about the amount we were sending to the landfill. We ultimately ended up switching to one that would degrade after time. In an effort to always try to improve, we are going to start working with a great local company (Dirt Wain) to compost the waste. This means we needed another upgrade on bags! We have switched to using Biobags, which Dirt Wain also uses.

’’
The all time record of bags used for removing poop from one yard is 26 bags, which were 13 gallon trash bags!

Feel free to add any additional information about your operation as you see fit.

Our service has a wide range of clients. Some people can't get into their yards to clean up, but like a clean yard. Some people just don't like poop or are too busy to get to it! Ultimately, when people hire us, they are buying the most valuable thing on earth, which is their time. They no longer have to spend time doing something they don't want to do, they can instead spend it doing something they enjoy!
