Municipalities

Unlock value from waste by recovering valuable resources within organic waste to allow conversion into biogas or nutritious compost to grow new crops in.

Organic waste and left-over foods make up more than 44% of global waste each year, adding up to almost 1 billion tonnes. In EU, approximately half of the waste gets recycled or composted, leaving much room for improvement. By collectively changing a small habit like the bag we collect food waste with, municipalities don't just reduce harm - they actually actively replenish the environment.

Distributing compostable bags to residents is more than just handing out a bag; it’s about providing citizens with a tool to contribute making a positive environmental impact. What’s great about our bags is that they become part of the waste it carries. This allows to recover the valuable resources within the organic waste by converting it into biogas or nutritious compost to grow new crops in.

Biogas production contributes to renewable energy generation, while compost enriches soil, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers and promoting healthier crop growth. Both are obviously great! No matter the destination of organic waste in your municipality, providing citizens with compostable bags has proven to make a difference. For instance, a Danish municipality saw the cleanliness of their organic waste jump from 75% to an impressive 97% purity. This shift not only makes composting more effective but also encourages residents to be more mindful of their waste sorting.

What can you do?

  • Show citizens the value and effect of sorting & collecting food waste.
  • Launch education campaigns to inform residents about the benefits of sorting organic waste and how to do it correctly.
  • Implement a separate collection system that makes it easy and convenient for your citizens to collect their different waste fractions and provide them with the tools to do so.
  • Engagement can also be enhanced through workshops, school programs, and community composting initiatives.

Invest in processing infrastructure to convert organic waste into compost, biogas and digestate. Compost can be used in your city parks and distributed to residents. Biogas can be used as a renewable energy source, while digestate is an excellent soil amendment. Meaning that your local busses, garbage trucks & heat in the city can be provided by collected organics done by your citizens. Isn’t that fantastic?! Our Biobags fit into different type of biogas facility infrastructure, whether the bags get sorted out before hand or go into the digester. We will be able to advice what type of bag could work in your system and make sure that there is no persistent microplastics left to biodegrade in the soil.

Luckily more and more households are already using our bags to collect their food-waste with, as many governments and municipalities around the world have started using and distributing our waste bags & caddies, to drive the behaviour change needed to fight climate change. We hope you will too! Choosing compostable bags demonstrate sustainable efforts this choice can align seamlessly with your broader environmental objectives by offering multiple benefits.
