Each month, we will highlight community heroes that are making a difference in their communities and working to make their local environments cleaner and healthier.
This month, we are taking a look at Compost Company in TN!

The Compost Company is a composting service based in Ashland City, Tennesse who collects all forms of food waste including meat, dairy, bones and fish waste, as well as all plant material and paper goods. Biobag Associate spoke to Emily Ezell with Compost Company about the organization. Their interview is transcribed below.
What led you to start your composting operation?
At the time, there was a complete lack of infrastructure to provide food waste and compostable materials collection and recycling services in Middle TN. Given that food has become one of the largest components of what goes into landfills we were convinced that there was an enormous opportunity to have a meaningful positive impacts on our community and environment.

Who do you serve and how can people get in touch with you if they want to start composting?
We serve commercial facilities of all descriptions: restaurants, offices, hotels, hospitals, food manufacturers, caterers and event spaces. If someone would like to explore how a program might work at their place of business, they can call 615-866-8152, check out webite https://www.compostcompany.com/ or email [email protected].
How much organic material do you typically take in on a weekly basis?
How much organic material do you typically take in on a weekly basis? We currently average around 160 tons per week
Feel free to add any additional information about your operation as you see fit.
Many “compost” products don’t bring a whole lot to the table. Our compost is made with locally sourced all-natural feedstocks including food scraps, leaf and wood waste, and agricultural residuals that we blend and age carefully – and fully – so that you only get mature, weed and pesticide-free compost for your planting project. We pay extra time and attention to all of our products to create the best in all-natural growing media.
