Each month, we will highlight community heroes that are making a difference in their communities and working to make their local environments cleaner and healthier.
This month, we are taking a look at Mr. Fox Composting in NH & ME!

Mr. Fox Composting is a residential and commercial composting service based in NH & ME. Biobag Associate spoke to Jenny Humphries with Mr. Fox Composting about the organization. Their interview is transcribed below.
What led you to start your composting operation?
I have always liked composting. I enjoy the simplicity of it especially in these complicated times, compost has so many uses, and watching our soil be used to grow great products is exciting. Additionally, seeing how we have a direct impact on our community shows how much we can make a difference is huge!
We started over ten years ago with the goal of providing composting service along the New Hampshire and Maine seacoast. We have come a long way since we started. We have been steadily expanding our commercial, residential, event and compostable product programs throughout many towns. Additionally, we are growing as a company, hiring more drivers, adding new trucks and implementing new technologies to make us as efficient as possible.

Who do you serve and how can people get in touch with you if they want to start composting?
We currently service the NH Seacoast and Southern Maine. People can learn more by visiting our website at mrfoxcomposting.com
How much organic material do you typically take in on a weekly basis?
How much organic material do you typically take in on a weekly basis? We probably take in multiple tractor-trailer loads worth each week. Our fleet hauls and processes it all too!
Feel free to add any additional information about your operation as you see fit.
I've been working with compost for over 20 years and Mr. Fox Composting has been in business for over 10 years!
We believe that the future of our planet is dependent on our communities changing small habits. Composting our organic waste is an easy way to make a difference in the waste stream. Mr. Fox is here to help communities turn small habits into big impacts one bin at a time.
Real Maine is a program of the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. It connects people with Maine farmers and food producers. By sharing their stories and giving consumers access to authentic Maine farm products and experiences, we are supporting a sector that is an essential part of the Maine economy, regional food system, and the quality of life Maine people enjoy.
